Dunkin' case study - faster, frictionless drive-thru

Global QSR Brand Uses Location to Save Time, Increase Throughput

With 11,300 restaurants worldwide and 4 million+ app downloads, Dunkin’ serves 3 million customers on-the-go every day. Speed and convenience are crucial.

Dunkin’ wanted to buck the industry trend of increased wait times in the drive-thru by using location for a faster, frictionless drive-thru experience. The challenge was finding an advanced location solution that was a) easy to deploy and scale across hundreds of stores, b) precise and accurate down to a single drive-thru lane for order sequencing and timing, and c) optimized for guest experience to prevent app deletion – such as minimizing battery drain.

The goal was to save time and increase throughput by having customers place a mobile order and then proceed straight to the pick up window to collect their order.

Powered with Bluedot geolocation, Dunkin’ has:

Launched the first ever frictionless drive-thru (FDT)
Allowed customers to place mobile order and proceed directly to the pick up window
Significantly cut wait times compared to traditional drive-thru
Sequenced orders for more efficient operations

Bluedot has significantly reduced wait time in frictionless drive-thrus… This is a game changer - resetting the bar for delivering real convenience and accelerating Dunkin's mobile initiatives.
